And it adds workflows that simply didn't exist before: green-screen compositing, clay-render references for blocking and spatial layout, and camera-perspective editing. Resolution ranges from 480p to 1080p. No native 4K for 2.5 as of this writing.
Seedance 2.0
Released February 12, 2026, this is the model that established the line's reputation. It generates clips up to 15 seconds with native audio, accepts up to 9 images and 3 video or audio references, and supports resolutions from 480p all the way up to 4K. But calling it "the older one" misses something important. 2.0 isn't just still available, it's still genuinely strong at a specific category of work, and in some areas it's the better tool regardless of what 2.5 can do. Short-form video is its natural territory, and 15 seconds isn't a limitation in that context, it's the format. A product reveal, a social hook, a transition, a reaction, a concept test: these are 3-to-12-second jobs. The 15-second ceiling is more than enough runway, and the model is specifically optimized for output quality within that window rather than stretching to fill a longer one. A 10-second 2.0 clip isn't a compromised version of what 2.5 would produce at the same length. It's a model doing exactly the job it was designed for. 4K is the other concrete advantage. What actually improved in 2.5
Character persistence. On 2.0, characters drift visibly by 10 seconds, face softening, hair reorganizing, clothing shifting color. On 2.5, the same character holds noticeably longer, partly from the larger window and partly from the tagged reference system giving the model an explicit anchor instead of guessing. Better, not solved: drift still appears on the longest takes.
Emotion and skin. Faces on 2.0 tend toward a narrow range, pleasant or neutral. 2.5 shows more subtlety, especially in the eyes, and skin rendering is more natural with fewer of the waxy, over-smoothed surfaces that flag output as AI-generated on first glance.
Motion. Camera movements hold together more reliably, objects in motion warp less, and walking and gesturing look more natural at playback speed. Simple motion is solid. Complex motion, a person catching something, two characters sharing an object, still breaks regularly. ByteDance acknowledges this directly.
Human performance. More deliberate hand gestures, more natural lip-sync, more realistic eye movement. Hands still break past five fingers, lip-sync drifts on longer lines, and smiles sometimes land somewhere uncanny. Better across the board, reliable on none of it.
Audio. Ambient sound holds character more consistently across 30 seconds, dialogue timing stays closer to lip movements, music references keep rhythm. Still struggles with skipped words, sounds that don't match the action, and uninvited background music.
What Seedance 2.0 is still better at
Short-form consistency. Within 15 seconds, 2.0 is tightly calibrated. It concentrates all of its coherence on a shorter duration, which often means tighter output with fewer re-rolls than running the same prompt on 2.5. A model built for 15 seconds isn't compromised generating 8, it's overqualified.
4K and color depth. Native 4K with 10-bit encoding means smoother gradients, no banding on large surfaces, and source material that survives professional color grading. If output is going into post-production or onto a large screen, the gap between 1080p 8-bit and 4K 10-bit is visible to whoever's approving it.
Predictable iteration. Six months of community knowledge: tested prompts, documented failure modes, known edge cases. When you're generating twenty variants looking for the right one, knowing where the failures tend to land is worth more than higher specs from a model you haven't calibrated against yet.
Cost on simple jobs. A 10-second social clip doesn't benefit from 50 reference slots, a 30-second window, or timestamp editing. Running it on 2.5 adds credits for capabilities that go unused.

4k Resolution
This comes up constantly and needs a clear answer rather than a passing mention. Native 4K with 10-bit encoding is available on Seedance 2.0. Seedance 2.5 currently supports 480p to 1080p on Aristotto. Consumer-facing product pages on Dreamina and CapCut use language that can imply 4K for both versions, but the actual output available for 2.5 is 1080p as the current ceiling.
If a project requires 4K delivery, 2.0 is the only option between the two right now. If a project can accept 1080p, the resolution difference doesn't factor into the decision, and the choice comes down to clip length, reference control, and editing needs instead.
Reusing Seedance 2.0 prompts on 2.5

Both models are running at 46% fewer credits per generation on all paid tiers, through December 20, 2026. That applies to every clip length including the full 30 seconds. It's a per-generation credit cost reduction, not a discount on the plan price itself.
Seedance 2.5 costs more credits per generation than 2.0, which makes sense given the longer window and heavier processing. Whether it costs more per finished piece depends entirely on the specific job. A single accepted 30-second 2.5 clip can work out cheaper than three 2.0 clips stitched together with manual cleanup. Or it can work out more expensive if the 30-second result keeps failing late in the take. The only way to know which is true for your work is to run both and track what you actually end up using.
